Bafana Bafana Keep World Cup Hopes Alive

South Africa recorded a convincing 3-0 victory over the Central African Republic away at the Stade Omnisports Ahmadou-Ahidjo in Yaounde, Cameroon, in their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Bernard Parker, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Katlego Mashego each found the back of the net as Bafana Bafana prevailed.

Parker put Bafana Bafana in the lead in the 25th minute when Tshabalala sliced the CAR defence with a brilliant pass and the striker evaded the CAR keeper before he slotted into an empty net.

Bafana Bafana were in the ascendency five minutes before half. Tshabalala lobbed a ball over the CAR defence for club mate Reneilwe Letsholonyane who, with only the keeper to beat, causally back heeled the ball to the CAR shot-stopper.

But the pressure did not end there for CAR, they failed to clear the ball and Tshabalala played a neat one-two with Tokelo Rantie as he busted his way into the box and rounded off the keeper before he put the ball into the back of the net in the 42nd minute.

In the 48th Bafana Bafana should made it 3-0 when Parker failed to hit the back of the net from six-yards, as his low left footed shot was saved by the CAR ‘keeper after a brilliant ball from Tshabalala on the edge of the box.

In the 91st minute Oupa Manyisa side stepped his way on the left side before he sent in a high cross into the box which Mashego headed into an empty net.

South Africa trail Group A leaders Ethiopia, whom they play next weekend away, by just two points. The Ethiopians beat Botswana 2-1 earlier on to preserve their lead at the summit of the group.
